What qualifications do the therapists have?

All therapists are fully trained to a very high standards and hold an ITEC qualification for massage therapy.

ITEC is an international examination board offering a variety of qualifications worldwide.

Some of our therapists also have a CIDESCO diploma which is the world’s most prestigious qualification in the field of esthetics and beauty therapy.

What are the benefits of Massage?

  • Improves the skin colour and tone by boosting circulation.
  • Helps to remove lactic acid and toxins from the muscles reducing pain, tenderness stiffness and fatigue.
  • Reduces stress and improves health. In Ireland today, research shows that 75% of disease is caused by stress.
  • Reduces swelling, which is caused by too much fluid in the cells, and reduces cellulite and lumpiness.
  • Boosts immunity by improving production and distribution of antibodies and lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell).
  • Improves muscular balance and thus skeletal alignment (contracted muscles can pull bones out of alignment).
  • Helps relieve the pain associated with muscular knots (trigger points). With regular massages the knots can loosen up extensively and often be removed.

What are Muscular knots and how are they formed?

Muscle knots are areas in the muscle, which have been actively, rather then passively in use. The area of the muscle that has knotted has been tensing even when you may think you are relaxed. This causes an adhesion, a lump, a bump or an un-smooth area in the muscle. This could be due to stress, poor posture, nutritional deficiencies, strain or over-exertion. Surgically removing a portion of muscle knot has led to the discovery of unusual deposits of protein in the tissue.

Knots are also known as trigger points. There are active and latent trigger points.
Active trigger points cause pain and will refer pain and tenderness to other areas of the body when pressure is applied.
Latent trigger points are only painful when compressed. These are the cause of stiff joints and restricted motion.

When pressure is professionally applied, sometimes over a course of treatments the knots will start to loosen up disappear.
Regular massages and stretching throughout the day helps relieve the pain associated with muscular knots.

How often should I receive a massage?

The answer here depends on the reasons for receiving the massage. If a client comes for some injury relief, and to relieve chronic tightness that is interfering with their daily lives in some way, weekly sessions may be necessary for a while to build on each session’s improvement in their relief and healing. For those who use massage as preventive care and managing the daily stress in their lives, once a month is about the norm. They may shorten the time between massages during stressful periods. Some come more often just because they enjoy it that much.
